Autumn reveals weak trees

Autumn reveals weak trees
Early, they surrender
While others are green at
The end of September

All their leaves are missing
They stand naked and tall
As if to raise warning
This may be the last fall

And nothing speaks to me

And nothing speaks to me
Not the weather, the sky
Or the white aster blooms
Or the pond going dry

Just monotone humming
The inspiration faint
I’m an empty canvas
Without the words, the paint

Searching for deeper blue

Searching for deeper blue
I found the love we shared
Lost in our years of youth
Our hearts together paired

With all the years passing
You never saw me old
Now that you’re not here, it’s
Our memories I hold

All this push comes to shove

All this push comes to shove
Two weather fronts thunder
Like plates in the Earth, one
Pushing up, one under

I’m fighting for my space
Cracked the shell wide open
I’ve uttered my first words
At last I have spoken

There's anger in the streets

There’s anger in the streets
We pour ourselves some tea
Populations starving
There’s nothing on TV

Religious killing mobs
We upgrade our iphone
Refugees seek borders
While we just sit at home

We are treading water

We are treading water
Thought we could go the length
Without assistance, now
Diminishing in strength

Too far out to swim back
With no sign of a boat
Without Life preservers
Must keep our heads afloat

Here we are, you and I

Here we are, you and I
This time spent together
Two grains of sand now pearls
Two birds of one feather

Traveling and hearing
The wind in our windows
Interpreting the World
With poetry and prose

Off center and spinning

Off center and spinning
My days begin to shout
Weather reports are wrong
On the inside and out

Simple becomes complex
Followed by disorder
Reduced to a pile of bricks
Without any mortar

Yes, I found the answer

Yes, I found the answer
Inside an empty box
Now I can quit looking
Stop juggling heavy rocks

While we are together
Each out here on our vine
Time is all we have now
To become more entwined

And what a lovely day

And what a lovely day
Joyousness in flowers
No questions of Life or
Search for higher powers

Butterflies like candle
Flames, loose across the field
A day to watch the sun
That passing clouds reveal

Future generations,

Future generations,
I was here, now I’m not
Moments I collected
Are gone and long forgot

I concluded nothing
But one answer is clear
The tree lives on while leaves
Are lost from year to year

Life is between two voids

Life is between two voids
Not here and then nowhere
Books with unknown covers
No landings, just a stair

Each of us a season
Clouds form and dissipate
A dot in nothingness
A spot, a speck, a flake

The World should hope for

The World should hope for
Fewer imperfections
Just look at what we’ve done
Upon our reflections

Of wars and casualties
And nature’s destruction
It all makes me wonder
How we ever function

Silence in the forest

Silence in the forest
As the soil turns to sand
Time no longer measured
By movements of a hand

Sleepy waves are breaking
The moon must be lazy
Good company is here
My cherished white daisy

I have never had faith

I have never had faith
Too much of life extinct
Creation and boredom
Somehow are not succinct

If this is all there is
Just think of all the waste
All alone spinning in
Vast emptiness and space

Insignificant me

Insignificant me
The sky is unknowing
I age to extinction
Yet we call it growing

I’m the smallest fraction
In the whole human race
That’s smaller than nature
And still smaller than space

All in a brand new day

All in a brand new day
We rush and chase the light
A quick unrehearsed dance
That takes us into night

Somewhere in the journey
“Nowhere” becomes “now here”
For a shining moment
Only to disappear

It's time for the asters

It’s time for the asters
Tulips are long ago
And soon the leaves will fall
Trees covered in light snow

I see the geese leaving
It’s time for them to go
Cardinals are staying
It’s as if they didn’t know

Right here, not far away

Right here, not far away
It’s clearly in your view
This moment in your life
Delivers something new

Today is yours only
For what is tomorrow
Hold onto this moment
That you only borrow

My weights are heavy but

My weights are heavy but
To you they must seem light
I work hard to move them
But yours takes all your might

Keeping my perspective
For this is not the worst
So much more can happen
And so much more can burst

A blue Rothko painting

A blue Rothko painting
The longitude is long
Our shadows are wading
The morning sun is strong

Days like empty seashells
Waves caught in a refrain
Yet two pearls are forming
No longer just a grain

Gone to rest, the sun sets

Gone to rest, the sun sets
Yet the lake never sleeps
The waves break while we make
Deep gullies and sand heaps

With the moon, the waves soon
Come closer to the shore
Drift wood drifts, the sand shifts
And seagulls cry no more

An endless amount of sun

An endless amount of sun
On a road that ribbons
Across the curvature
The future is hidden

Past the silent forest
Tall grasses in blonde sand
Lead us to the water
And the end of dry land

Line stretching from south to north

Line stretching from south to north
Sails setting in the west
Blue sky meets blue water
With waves that trough and crest

And blue clouds tipped in white
Are still as tethered boats
On a calm sea of sky
And summer air they float

All the things I have lost

All the things I have lost
Must be in the same place
Somewhere I haven’t looked
All gone without a trace

I know I can’t find them
Entire things and fragments
They’re not made of iron
And I’m not a magnet

Diagonal rain clouds

Diagonal rain clouds
Above the straight corn rows
One yellow butterfly
Amongst the big black crows

I’m in the here and now
But one day, I’ll think then
Of this moment in time
That happened way back when

The moon in the morning

The moon in the morning
Slowly sets in the West
Transparent in daylight
At last it comes to rest

And the stars are long gone
They’re hiding in the blue
The sun is coming up
All perfectly on cue

I turned a corner and

I turned a corner and
Found a new direction
I didn’t know it happened
There was no indication

Out of an accident
I have new ways to see
I look back and wonder
At how this came to be

I wish I had a flare

I wish I had a flare
Or my own flag to wave
To signal that I’m here
Requesting to be saved

I’m counting lonely days
How can my voice be heard
Where there’s no echo from
These silent written words
