Today has a purpose

Today has a purpose
Moments accumulate
There is a task at hand
Decisions calculate

And then time like a fog
In a matter of weeks
Absorbs all the present
Except its highest peaks

In an antique shop there

In an antique shop there
Were things like my mother's
Poorly shelved, cheaply priced
Scattered amongst others

Her bowl for ambrosia
Cherished Beatrix Potter
And Christmas bulbs we found
Playing "colder, hotter"

Wishing only the best

Wishing only the best
Life is not a contest
All our souls lay to rest
Just two dates and a dash

Time is the greatest gift
Seeking gold as we sift
And our spirits we lift
Making each day a splash

A fist full of gravel

A fist full of gravel
The Life impossible
Less life than sound whispered
Yet still inaudible

Of no use yet purpose
Evidence presented
I tried to squeeze Life in
Pointless but intended

The fisherman hasn't

The fisherman hasn't
Got a clue that their hook
Is not in my mouth, their
Careful bait never took

The worm and I laughing
As we pull on the bob
And they reel in their line
Disappointed and robbed

The World rarely stands still

The World rarely stands still
OJ and Diana
The COVID pandemic
The crime of Osama

Or a heavy snowfall
All the roads turn empty
The ground mirrors the sky
Inches to feet plenty

Accepting this old face

Accepting this old face
I'm not young anymore
I'm viewing the landscape
Many others before

Future of fewer dates
As I widen the scope
And taking more in with
A gift wrapping of Hope
